Where is abrams bridge

That is, Darkness is a song that I've heard most number of different interps of. I think broadly speaking, it is a song of resiliance in the face of adversity but Bruce also wrote in such a way that there wasn't meant to be a right or wrong understanding of it. The listener brings his or her own experiences to Darkness on the Edge of Town.
Perhaps the song even took on new meanings for Bruce over the years, as he changed the lyrics slightly. Is it about defeat? Is it about addiction, or love? Is it about a woman who has left the singer to live in a fancy part of town? All these are are theories I've heard. You'll have to figure this one out yourself.
Would love to hear what you come up with in the end! No idea about the Abrams Bridge though, could it be some sort of biblical reference?. Go-CartMozart Posted January 28, I think it's about overcoming defeat but that is just me. Well here goes with my projection I have always thought of that "spot neath Abram's Bride" as the place where the character in this song and his one time love, consummated their relationship. In the prior lyrics, his former lover has moved on to an apparent status life house in Fairview, etc , leaving him behind.
With the Abram's Bridge lyrics, the character exerts if she comes looking, he has "appeared" to have moved on too, but if she's asking about him for anyone to tell her that "there's a spot neat Abram's Bridge. I don't know, but that's my projection. Note also how each songs on Darkness is linked to the song in the same slot on the other side. Perhaps some of the understanding ofte title track can come from examinig Racing in the Street?
Darkness after all, begins with "Well they're still racin' down at the trestles trestles are bridge supports. So hypothetically, the man and woman in Darkness are the same couple from Racing in the Streets further down the road. This fits with Brothers under the Bridges Following this, Abrams Bridge could be where the main character used to race his car, and ultimately lost his woman's love? And this is where he wants to meet her again. Johnny Posted January 28, This is the most important of all his songs.
It most clearly articulates his core theme, secular redemption. The narrator has lost all the things that were important to him, yet he is ready to fight his way back. The starkest, most powerful moment in the history of popular music is this: A man, midway though his dark night of the soul, shouts to the heavens, "Tonight, I'll be on that hill PoetDownHere Posted January 28, Never would have thought of that in a million years. I'd be very curious to have a conversation with Bruce and ask him if Darnkess is related to Racing.
I imagine Bruce would say "in some fashion. Dr Zen Posted January 28, I forget who pointed that Darkness side A and B out to me first. But I think generally there is a lot of stuff going on in Bruce's music that we don't notice even though we've been listening to it for years. There are probably a lot of biblical and literary references in his music that I probably don't get at all. Wilcox Posted January 29, Posted January 29, Yeah, the Racing and Darkness link would also make sense because the narrator speaks about a character named "Sonny" on both tracks.
BillCheatham Posted January 29, I think there is a definite religious reference in this song, although it is not easily found no pun intended. There is a small city in Wisconsin named Abrams that is famous for its cheeses as well as its babes. Most people dont know that there are some pretty sharp woman who live and have lived in Wisconsin. Its not just all big German Hoffrau's munching on bratwurst.
So I think what Bruce is trying to say when he interjects the allegorical "Abrams Bridge" is that no matter what happens in life, and no matter how many "rivers" possibly alluding to his next project you are still gonna be hungry for some cheese whether its Liederkrantz or plain old American.
So if the cheesemakers do in fact inherit the earth, and they are stacked like a bag of kids building blocks, well you want to be UNDER the bridge because cheese floats.
We see this later on in Drive All Night when he refers to "machines" being on the "edge of town". These are of course the cheese wrapping machines. The more you look for it in Bruce songs there is and underlying theme of dairy products. Pink Cadillac is so obviously about a Port Wine cheddar Posted January 30, Don't know if Bruce is referring to an actual place, or just liked the way "Abram's bridge" sounded. I like the way it sounds. Abrams came from Wales. Jeffrey Jacob Abrams. Jeffery Jacob Abrams.
